The “Clownfish Project” |
|
Updated for 2007- A note from the project advisor, Mr. Blackmer-
We started this project with one goal in mind….. To raise clownfish in the classroom, and keep wild clownfish where they belong; in the ocean. The clownfish project has been a major success. We are currently breeding ocellaris and maroon clownfish and are attempting to get other pairs to breed. We currently have hundreds of juvenile clownfish swimming in one of our 13 growout/nursery tanks. Our new addition of seahorses have given us a new, and much anticipated challenge. Much time and money has been spent getting our project off of the ground. It really wouldn't be possible without the help from the individuals on our donations/patrons page. Our motto “Conservation through Education” seems fitting because the students make much of what is used. For example, typical reef rock can be purchased for around $6 a pound, but we make our own rock out of cement and oyster shells. Even the bottles we use have been donated by the DEQ of Lansing. Each bottle has been sterilized, scrubbed and fitted with our own label. Please check back often as we will be updating our progress and future successes. Thank you to all that have donated to, and support the Hartford High School Reef Club and, the “Clownfish Project”.
